Volunteer With Us
Join our small band of volunteers and make a difference in the lives of community residents. At Mearns Minibus Link, we believe that every helping hand counts. If you can spare a few hours a month, your contribution will be invaluable.
Requirements
All our volunteer drivers need to undergo MiDAS (Minibus Driver Awareness Scheme) training before helping out. This is free and should only take a few hours at most. The theory part is done online, and the practical with one of our Trustees, Allan.
Our drivers are usually called on to help a couple of times a month, although this can vary. It’s completely flexible, and entirely up to you how much you want to help. Runs could include taking pensioners to lunch club, a group to a community event, or someone in a wheelchair to a medical appointment or respite care. Wheelchair handling can be done as part of the MiDAS training, but it’s your decision on whether you want to include it.
If you are aged 70+ then we also need a medical certificate from your doctor.
If you’d like more information, please contact us. Or, download one of the forms below and return to us, either by email or to the Venue hall in Laurencekirk.
MiDAS Training
If any of your group, staff or volunteers need training to drive a minibus, we can provide it. The Minibus Driver Awareness Scheme (MiDAS) is a recognised qualification focusing on driving minibuses safely. We run this in conjunction with the Community Transport Association.
There are two available courses, Standard and Accessible, which includes additional training for those who will be transporting disabled passengers. The training is divided into theory and practical. Theory is done online in your own time, after we have registered you for it. After you have passed that, we make arrangements for our trainer to take you out on the bus for practical training. There is a charge for this service.
Please contact us for costs, more details, or if you want to arrange training.
